Vinton park severely damaged overnight

VINTON, Iowa (KCRG) – The Vinton Parks and Recreation Department says its Riverside Park was vandalized overnight Friday.

The Vinton Police Department was made aware of the vandalism at around 2:54 a.m. when it received a report of a fire at the park. Officers arrived and discovered a Vinton Parks and Recreation Department vehicle on fire along with the playground equipment. Both are considered a total loss.

A trampoline in a nearby vacant lot was also set on fire, according to officials.

Police were able to identify two male juvenile suspects after an investigation into the incident. Charges are pending against the two individuals.

In a Facebook Post, they said “It goes without saying that we are deeply saddened by these events. If you go to Riverside please avoid the playground as it is an unsafe area to be.”
