Girl dead after shooting at the JW Marriott downtown, suspect in custody

A girl who police say was shot and killed early Saturday morning in a hotel room at the JW Marriott downtown has been identified. 

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the hotel on a report of a person shot just after 1 a.m. They were directed to the room where the girl had been shot and EMS pronounced her dead at the scene.

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection to the shooting, IMPD said. He faces preliminary charges of reckless homicide.

The Marion County coroner’s office identified the victim as 16-year-old Karla Vasquez.
