E-H-E Album Cover, Pianist Marcus Sukiennik
Three notes for a toast to the luxury hotel by the Rhine. With the composition E-H-E the Cologne pianist Marcus Sukiennik celebrates his 10-year anniversary as artistic director of the Piano Bar of the Excelsior Hotel Ernst.
E-H-E. With this triad the new title by pianist and composer Marcus Sukiennik begins and ends. And this is not a coincidence: These are the initials of the Excelsior Hotel Ernst where Sukiennik has been responsible for conducting the musical evening programme of the Piano Bar since 10 years by now. Known for his versatile modern compositions, which occasionally make use of classical, jazzy and also pop elements, the minimalist anniversary song comes across as lively and solemn – without being sentimental.
Being an insider tip, the Piano Bar of the traditional luxury hotel is popular among lovers of fine drinks and atmospheric background music. Sukiennik’s liaison with the Excelsior Hotel began in 2010, when he performed for the first time as a live pianist at the Piano Bar next to Cologne Cathedral. As its artistic director, he now sets the tone for the bar’s relaxed atmosphere.
This anniversary happens to be in a very unusual year. Like most artists, Sukiennik is rarely seen on stage at the moment. He has only played a few times at the Excelsior since the spread of Covid-19. “I love playing music live and experiencing exchange with an audience – that’s what inspires me,” says Sukiennik. “I am therefore particularly looking forward to the moment when the doors of the bar will finally open again for guests.”
E-H-E is the promising prelude to a series of regular new releases by the pianist in high resolution audio. The track can be listened to on all common streaming platforms from December 4th, 2020 onwards. An accompanying video is already available to watch on YouTube.
